On the morning of June 24, the 2023 National Science and Technology Awards were announced. The awards included 2 recipients of the National Top Science and Technology Award, 49 National Natural Science Awards, 62 National Technological Invention Awards, 139 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 10 recipients of the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China. A project titled "High Mobility Organic Semiconductor Crystal Materials and Devices," led by Professor Hu Wenping from the School of Science at Tianjin University, won the second prize of the 2023 National Natural Science Award, with Tianjin University as the primary completing institution.

This project conducted systematic research on the fundamental scientific issues of "high mobility organic semiconductor materials and devices," proposing design concepts for high mobility organic semiconductor materials and achieving a series of record-breaking high mobility organic semiconductor materials. The team was the first to conduct research on two-dimensional organic semiconductor crystals internationally, solving the long-standing scientific problem of the difficulty in revealing the "structure-performance relationship" of organic semiconductors. They also invented a printing technique for manufacturing two-dimensional crystal arrays, overcoming challenges in achieving high performance, uniformity, and stability for organic semiconductor devices, and pioneering a new model for planar integration of organic semiconductor devices.
